Troopers in Tolland County saw a Chevrolet Equinox traveling south at a high rate of speed in the area of Storrs Road and Moulton Road in Mansfield at about 4 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 4, Connecticut State Police reported.
Police clocked the Chevrolet at 65 mph in a 40 mph zone and then saw the vehicle traveling above 50 mph through the campus, authorities said.
State Police said the area is known to have pedestrian traffic at all hours and has a posted speed limit of 25 mph.
While speaking with the driver, identified as 33-year-old Hartford County resident Caitryn Byrka, of South Windsor, troopers observed signs of possible impairment, police said.
Byrka agreed to participate in standardized field sobriety tests and did not perform them to standard, police said.
She was arrested and charged with operating under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and reckless driving, authorities said.
Byrka was released on a $500 non-surety bond and is set to be arraigned on Wednesday, Dec. 28, according to the report.
